Collegium Workshop: Exploring Virtual Production and Immersive Media for Artistic Research
This workshop offers a structured introduction to Virtual Production and Immersive Media in IADT’s Immersive Media Lab, combining an LED volume, Unreal Engine, camera tracking, OptiTrack motion capture, Chaos Arena, VR headsets, 360° photography and PortalCam. The session explains what each system does, how they can connect within real-time production workflows, and how the lab can support different approaches to image-making, performance, spatial capture and immersive production. The practical structure combines a guided introduction to the facilities with live demonstrations and short hands-on exercises using selected systems.
Designed for researchers and staff from artistic, creative, technical and interdisciplinary backgrounds, the workshop does not assume prior experience of Virtual Production or immersive technologies. Beyond the technical overview, it frames the Immersive Media Lab as a research platform, considering how these tools can support artistic research through new relationships between performance, cinematography, space, virtual environments and immersive capture, as well as technological inquiry into tracking, calibration, real-time rendering, colour management, latency and workflow design. The goal is to give participants a clear conceptual map of the lab and a set of research directions they can adapt to their own projects.
